Themed Programs

All programs feature brief, lively introductions that excite and charm audiences no matter what their musical background. See “Videos” for a few clips.

“By George!” is a joyful program of jazz and classical selections written by George Gershwin including selections from “Porgy and Bess”, Gershwin’s own arrangements of many of his songs and ragtime rarities.

 “Jazz and Classical Music By Black Composers” includes jazz favorites by Scott Joplin, Duke Ellington and Fats Waller plus fabulous, short classical pieces by Florence Price, Nathaniel Dett, and Harry Burleigh. (great for February: Black History Month and June: Black Music Month)

“Music by and About Women” includes amazing selections by Cecile Chaminade, Lili Boulanger, Amy Beach and Beth Sussman plus selections associated with women from the films “Casablanca”, “Wizard of Oz”, “Laura” and others. (especially great for March: Women’s History Month)

“Movie Magic” highlights musical gems from movies and beautiful romantic classical selections by Chopin and Schumann.

“Red, White and Blue” Bon-Bons by American and French composers (Aaron Copland, Joplin, George M. Cohan, Irving Berlin, Claude Debussy) in honor of July 4th and Bastille Day. Includes a sing-a-long to patriotic songs.

“Holiday Program” Christmas and Hanukah favorites plus music from “The Nutcracker” and some Beethoven in honor of his December Birthday.

“Just Desserts” short, familiar classical pieces and music by the likes of Gershwin, Berlin, Porter, Rodgers and Hart and Hoagy Carmichael. .
