It’s been a busy summer! In addition to performances, I presented “Rhythm Without the Blues” for both The Kennedy Center’s Arts Integration Conference and for the Midwest Arts Integration Conference. These teacher workshops connected rhythm with learning fractions in a fun and interactive way. I have done this workshop with thousands of students who love it and it’s a great way for many to understand the concept of fractions. I was also one of only five panelists for The Kennedy Center’s “Making Connections” session which ended the Conference this summer. I’m working on some new concert programs and am getting ready to gear up for the school year!
I think it is wonderful that you connected reading with music. I had a little experience with helping kids with reading. I worked from the premise that reading should be fun. Therefore I tried to make it fun. I think that music and reading should walk hand and hand..I miss working with the children. Hopefully. I’ll get back to volunteering with Americorp…
Thanks, Diane- hope the video on YouTube (search “Joppity”) can help you with steady beat activities
